Herbs and Practices for the Scorpio Solar Eclipse.

The New Moon on October 25th 2022 is no ordinary lunation. It offers a chaotic abyss of internal magic that wants to be revealed. Resistance is no longer an option. The Scorpio moon will be colliding with the Scorpio sun to reveal hidden gems within your psyche. It may at first feel like a punch in the gut, but ultimately will lead to greater knowing, healing, and growth.

Eclipses are known to be intense but it is really how we respond to them that makes all the difference. If something challenging is revealed to you this is an opportunity to receive these messages, process, and transmute them. View your eclipse messages as gifts rather than burdens and this will be a much easier few weeks ahead.

Scorpio rules the genitals and reproductive systems and therefore the pelvic floor. Tending to the health of this part of the body will provide grounding and balance right now, especially if you suffer from acute or chronic reproductive health issues. This could look like irregular periods, PCOS, fibroids, menopausal symptoms, ED, prostate flares, PMS, and many other maladies.

Root chakra meditations, pelvic steams, earthing, and eating nourishing foods like soups and stews are all wonderful steps to help you feel more grounded during the next few weeks.

Scorpio also rules the colon, nose and all excretory organs. Aiding digestion and supporting the natural detox pathways of the body are supportive self care tactics this season. As you support your body by ridding toxins this also applies to other aspects of your life. This eclipse is asking…possibly demanding you to release relationships, jobs, limiting beliefs, and fears to be free from the blight ailing you.

Scorpio is ruled by the planet Pluto which signifies death, rebirth, and transformation. Pluto gets a bad reputation but really it is abetting you in transmuting fears into inspiration, blockages into resilience, and stress into motivation. This solar eclipse is shaking you at your core and pushing you into a new phase of being. Are you ready to take this plunge into the deep waters of the underworld? At this point not doing so will be harder than actually taking the dive. Below are some herbs to support your alchemical process during this time.

Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris): This plant is known for enhancing dreams and astral travel to reveal the hidden within the subconscious mind. Mugwort also has an array of other medicinal qualities including being a bitter which helps aid digestion and elimination. Mugwort is an emmenagogue which means that it can bring on the flow of menstruation and help to balance hormones. It is also a powerful antiseptic with an affinity for the vulva, if an infection is present a pelvic steam combined with rose, yarrow, and calendula is useful. Mugwort is associated with Artemis, goddess of the hunt, fertility, and the wild woods. By taking this plant you can invoke the divine feminine within, receive messages from your dreams, and support your pelvic floor in more ways than one.

Damiana (Turnera diffusa): This aromatic plant is a well known love potion that excites the libido. My favorite quality about Damiana is that while it has the remarkable ability to activate the libido it at the same time calms nervous tension and is a wonderful ally for performance anxiety and other sexual dysfunctions. Damiana can also be supportive for pain, muscle spasms, digestion, and mood boosting. The essential oil makes a lovely aphrodisiac blend that will make your heart sing. Work with damiana the next few weeks to access inner calm and pelvic activation, to commune with Scorpio energy, and to support your nervous system.

Tribulus (Tribulus terrestris): Also known as puncture vine, Tribulus can gently boost testosterone levels, aid impotence, boost libido, and is cardioprotective. Though it is generally thought of as an herb for men it can indirectly gently increase estrogen levels and therefore help with menopausal symptoms as well. It is a powerful ally for those struggling with sex drive and it also has an affinity for the genitourinary tract and aids issues like bladder infections or an inflamed prostate. Sexuality is a scorpionic trait, it is not just about sex - sexuality relates to creativity and imagination as well. To access your carnal and creative nature consider working with tribulus.

Black Cohosh (Actaea racemosa): Black Cohosh is best known as an ally for menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, and insomnia and it pairs well with sage. This plant has an affinity for the uterus and is useful in treating an array of hormone dysregulations as well as increasing fertility. Magically this is a very protective plant and can ward off negative energy as well as promote self love and tapping into wisdom. Work with this plant to connect with your inner crone for guidance. The wise old witch within holds the answers that you seek.

Vitex (Vitex agnus castus): Vitex also known as chaste tree berry is a powerful medicinal plant well known for supporting reproductive health and fertility. It is especially useful for hormonal migraines, PCOS, PMS, endometriosis, as well as many other hormonal maladies. If you struggle with progesterone deficiency and estrogen excess, vitex may be a vital ally for you. Vitex is sacred to the goddess of harvest, fertility, and marriage Demeter. It’s flowers were strewn during celebratory festivals of Demeter to honor chastity before marriage and fidelity during marriage hence the name “chaste tree”. Though this plant promotes fertility and is quite effective it also can quell excess sex drive, what is magical about vitex is that is reads your hormonal activity and adjusts where necessary. This scorpio season you can connect with vitex energetically by keeping the berries on your altar to ground your root chakra or if you want to balance your hormones you can take a daily dose, I recommend speaking with an herbalist like myself before going on vitex.

Kava (Piper methysticum): Kava Kava is a pungent plant known for its numbing effect on the mouth and euphoric effect on the body. In my practice I recommend kava when a client demonstrates stress that manifests in the body, panic attacks, muscular pain, and insomnia. It has a potent sedative action that is quick and effective for acute tension. It offers a sense of peace and emotional well-being which is often much needed during eclipse season. Kava has a remarkable ability to provide a sense of inner calm during mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical upheaval and therefore is a wonderful ally for transformation. It can help you to feel a sense of serenity while deep shifts are happening within. Take kava to calm the spirit and provide a gentle hug to your nervous system to and your rebirth process.

Please note: Do not take any of these herbs while pregnant.

Other mentionables for this eclipse include milk thistle, cleavers, red root, and yellow dock. Feel free to email bosswitchcoaching@gmail.com if you have questions about how to take these herbs or want to book a consultation where I can create a custom formula and holistic wellness plan for you.

In conclusion, this cosmic event is a powerful force of nature and a beautiful opportunity to go inward, address the shadow, resource yourself, ground the root chakra, tend to the pelvic floor, and receive the celestial wisdom that will soon be delivered!
